About Dubbo

Geographically located in the heart of New South Wales, Dubbo is undoubtedly the shopping capital of the West. Dubbo is a service city with a shopping population in excess of 120,000 people. It services a third of the geographic area of New South Wales.

Dubbo is the only city located in the Orana Region having developed over time as a major service centre and is situated at the meeting point of the Newell, Mitchell and Golden Highways. The City is an easy five-hour drive to Sydney, four hours from Newcastle and Canberra and a 10-hour drive from Melbourne and Brisbane.

The People

The profile of Dubbo's population is typical of a large, growing regional centre and the City's economic prominence in the region is reflected in its ongoing population growth. Less than 5% of the City's population was born outside Australia, while 9% identify as Aboriginal.

High growth rates achieved in the City during the 1970s and 1980s made planning essential to keep pace with the demand for infrastructure development as the City grew from a population of 20,629 in 1971 to 30,918 in 1986 to nearly 40,000 today.

The City

The City of Dubbo offers not only a location for business but also an enviable lifestyle for those operators who make the change. Dubbo is one of the State's largest inland cities and is a dynamic regional centre with an abundance of well-educated prospective employees and boasting a non-metropolitan lifestyle backed by modern infrastructure and economic development.

There are some 3500 businesses in the City of which 90% are small businesses which are vital to the local economy. The development and performance of industry in Dubbo meets or exceeds that of the NSW average.

Dubbo City is a well-established member of the global village and is situated on the path of three major fibre-optic cables, thereby assisting both businesses and residents to take advantage of the speed and variety of today's latest information technologies, including wireless broadband.

The lifestyle

Dubbo's quality of life continues to attract new residents and visitors alike with its cultural diversity, welcoming, vibrant society, bountiful native flora and fauna and low-stress environment.

The City's informal ethos is one of progress, diversity and opportunity, and combines the attributes of a large population centre with the familiarity and generosity of spirit typical of communities in western NSW.
